Hope House Dedication - May 11, 2007

Labels: Ribbon Cutting
On May 11, 2007, a large crowd gathered to dedicate the newest home on the property of Ebenezer Christian Children’s Home. This home, called Hope, will house nine additional children at Ebenezer, for a total of 33 children. Hope will be licensed as a level 2 facility, providing a home for children requiring more specialized care due to emotional and behavioral needs. With the living quarters for children and staff on the top level, the home also has a recreation and visitation room in the basement, living room, and separate apartment facility.
The many people who came for the dedication ceremony were able to hear comments from various speakers concerning the growth of Ebenezer and its burden to help children in need from board members and volunteers who have an active role in making Ebenezer a reality. Jerry Sidden, Board Chairman, welcomed the crowd and expressed excitement over the “Walk of Hope.” The walkway leading into the Hope Home was paved with bricks listing names in honor or memory of loved ones by those who purchased bricks for this special project. Words of hope were shared by John Wishon, and Jackie Wishon sang “Thread of Hope.” Rev. Ken Pardue lead the opening prayer of dedication as the crowd formed a circle to pray for the Hope Home and the children who will soon occupy it.
New Playground for the Hope Home is welcomed!
Through the joint efforts of Swing-n-Slide and Lowe's Hardware the children coming to the new Hope Home will have a wonderful playground to enjoy. Employees from Lowes, Swing-n-Slide and several volunteers joined together during less than optimal weather for a two day work effort to install the playground equipment. We are so amazed at the dedication of this group of folks who work through in the cold, rain and lots of mud to get the job done! Because of their dedication, many children will be blessed as they come through the Hope Home in the near future. We could never thank those who gave enough for their hard work and willingness to give so generously for the sake of the children. What a blessing!
We Have Been Busy!
There has been lots to keep us busy the last few months! From golf tournaments to playground installation to Christmas with the children we have been on the move. The annual golf tournament to benefit Ebenezer was held at Mountain Aire Golf Club in Jefferson, NC. This event was such fun for all the players who chose to spend this special day with us. We enjoyed the company of "Big Tom" from the CBS series "Survivor: Africa." He was the special guest for the day, and we thank him for taking time from his busy schedule to join us. There were many contests throughout the day as well as some great rounds of golf for the players. We extend a heartfelt thanks to each one who was a sponsor for the event as well as the players. Without you it would not have been possible. Look for more information coming up about next year's tournament.
SINGING IN THE FOOTHILLS 2006 DRAWS CROWD

The Talley Trio entertained the crowd at Singing in the Foothills 2006.
Singing in the Foothills Nominated!
On June 9th and 10th, 2006 at Wilkesboro Raceway Park in Wilkesboro, NC, a large crowd gathered to hear singing from many of today's most prominent names in Southern gospel music. With this being the first year the event was held by Ebenezer, we were unsure of exactly what to expect. However, we can rest assured that the event was a success. Attendance on Friday night was around 2,500, and Saturday night attendance jumped to around 3,000. The smiles on the faces of those in attendance was evidence of the joyful time had by all. On Friday night, attendees were treated to music by Greater Vision, Dove Brothers, Gold City, Pfeifers, and Victoria Huggins. On Saturday night, performances were given by the Perry's, Karen Peck & New River, Talley Trio, Whisnats, McRae's, Michael Combs, Victoria Huggins and Jonathan Cox.
A talent competition was held on Saturday morning for soloists and group talent with cash prizes, trophies and studio recording time given. Brian Beverly was the first place winner in the solo divison and Eddie Billings and Sara Pinkerton were the first place finishers for the group division. The talent competition was an enjoyable event for both participants and those in the audience.
Food vendors and artist tables were setup for attendees to enjoy throughout the two day event.
Plans are already underway for next year's event. According to Danny Jones of the Singing News magazine, "This was a win-win situation for all involved." Ebenezer is looking forward to the event growing over the years. It is a good opportunity to offer some of the best talent in today's Southern gospel music to the people of Wilkes County and this region. Attendees came from several local counties and the surrounding states.
Ebenezer is also thrilled that Singing in the Foothills has been nominated for event of the year! We encourage everyone to vote for us on www.thesoutherngospel.com.
Ebenezer extends a most heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful supporters and volunteers who made the event so enjoyable. We could never name everyone who gave of their time to help with food, parking, seating and the overall operation of the event. We are so thankful to each of you who gave so unselfishly of your time to help with the singing. We also thank the many sponsors who helped support the event. Without you, the event would have been impossible.
Keep checking back for more information about next year's Singing in the Foothills. We look forward to seeing you there!

There are lots of things to smile about at Ebenezer. God has blessed us with many wonderful friends. We have a great group of staff members who are very dedicated to their work and to the children they serve. We are thankful for our Board of Directors who pray fervently for God's guidance in the work of Ebenezer. We have also been a part of seeing several of our children placed recently into loving, caring Christian homes. As the old hymn says, "We are so blessed!"

Mr. John Adams stopped by over the Christmas holidays to visit with the children and staff. We appreciate his kindness to the children's home along with the many other friends who made Christmas a blessing. Thank you for all you do for the children!

Holiday Greetings and Singing in the Foothills
Ebenezer would like to extend a special thanks to all those who helped make our Thanksgiving special. We are looking forward to a wonderful holiday season with the children who call Ebenezer home and our many friends who make Christmas such an exciting time. We consider it a wonderful part of our work to share the true meaning of the season with the children. Many of them hear the Christmas story for the first time while with us. It is such a delight to see the smiles on their faces as they hear of a Savior, born in a manger, so we can have life everlasting.
During the holiday season, if you find yourself searching for the perfect gift for that special someone, remember

Thanks Ms. Alta for your hard work!

Thanks to the Oakwoods Baptist Church youth group, clowns and puppets for working the Share-a-Thon. The group stopped by to say hello at the radio station. They were such fun!
Share-a-Thon Times are such a Blessing!
The recent Share-a-Thon for Ebenezer was a success. We were so blessed to have the support of many volunteers over the two day event. Without them we could not have accomplished all that we did. From standing in the streets to collect pledges or to answer the phones, volunteers helped the Share-a-thon run smoothly. We extend our most heartfelt thanks to all of the many people who gave so unselfishly of their time to help. We could never thank you enough!
Over $72,000.00 was raised during the Share-a-Thon to help with the ongoing construction of the Hope Home. We appreciate each person who gave to help in this worthwhile endeavor. This support will help make it possible for the fourth home at Ebenezer to be a reality for children. Thank you for giving!

Upcoming Share-A-Thon Volunteers Needed
The Spring share-a-thon for Ebenezer on
WWWC Radio will be held on April 22nd & 23rd, 2005. Volunteers are needed, as always, to make the event a success. We will need volunteers to answer the phones at the radio station, to work at the hot dog stand, and stand at various intersections in Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro and collect money. This is an excellent opportunity to get your church youth groups involved. Last Fall we were blessed with over 100 volunteers. To get involved call Sherry at the Home at 336-667-LOVE or email
egcch@pcshome.net
Ebenezer's Attic
Talk about a God idea! Wouldn't it be great if there were a place to get quality used items of clothing for 25 cents, 50 cents, or a dollar? Wouldn't it also be nice if that place also carried used books, electronics, household items, furniture, toys, and power equipment? Wouldn't it also be nice if the money raised from the sales of those items could go to help kids? That place is
Ebenezer's Attic, on Main Street, in downtown North Wilkesboro. You may drop off donated items at the store and then we sell them and the money goes to support The Home. The hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday - 10:00-5:00
Wednesday - 9:00-1:00
Saturday - 9:00-2:00
Due to overwhelming response, we require at least 3 days notice to arrange for someone to pickup donations at your location. God has truly blessed this outreach and we are so thankful for all of you who choose to support the Attic. You can contact the attic by calling 336-838-2842.
Hope Home Update
Thanks to the hard work of Ralph Shumate and several volunteers, the frame work on the new Hope home is almost completed.

The framing on the basement area on the Hope Home is completed.
Christmas 2004
Christmas 2004 was exciting as always at Ebenezer. There is something special about the Christmas season that lifts the hearts of people both young and old. The feeling that comes with the holiday season is one that is often misunderstood by the children in our care. Often children come to us with no concept of the birth of a baby, born in a manager, who would be the Savior to this world. However, over time it is our privilege to share this story with each child who calls Ebenezer home. Through the kindness of friends like you, we are able to provide this special home for children where they are taught the true meaning of the season.
During the Christmas season we realize that our joy over Christ’s birth is a time for celebration and joy. Children often find their joy in the gifts and presents they receive. In time these children will grasp the true meaning of Christmas. It is an honor for us to speak with children who have come through the doors of Ebenezer and listen to them reflect on their time here and how they have come to understand the importance of the time focused on sharing God’s love with them. This is the joy of our work.
The children in the care of Ebenezer have had a wonderful Christmas this year. We are most appreciative of the many gifts not only during the holiday, but through the whole year that have enabled the children of Ebenezer to have a warm bed, clothes to wear, and food to eat. For all of the individuals and churches that support this ministry both financially and most importantly prayerfully we say THANKS!!
Fall Share-A-Thon
The Fall Share-A-Thon was held on November 19th and 20th at the studio's of
WWWC Radio. It was a Spirit-filled time as the Lord moved in the hearts of his people to give. When the two-day event ended on Saturday night around 10pm, over $80,000 had been raised. This money is also to be used for the HOPE Home, now under construction.
10 Year Celebration
On August 13th Ebenezer celebrated 10 years of ministry. Our special musical guest for the evening was
The Pfeifers.

More from the 10 year celebration that was held under a big campmeeting tent.

We were also blessed with a special appearance by Jonathan Cox.

During the 10 year Anniversary Celebration, the Ebenezer staff presented Executive Director Jean Davis with a refinshed rocking chair.
Golf Tourney
The golf Tournament at Mountain Aire Golf Course in Ashe County was a success! The event was held on July 31st and over 100 golfers participated. We would like to thank Mr. Gary Foster for organizing the day, and each sponsor and golfer for helping make the event so special. We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament!
Spring Share-A-Thon
The Spring share-a-thon was held on April 23rd and 24th at the studio's of
WWWC Radio. Money raised during the event will be used to construct the new "Hope" home. $52,548 was raised during the two day event. One of the highlights was the donation of a golf cart to be used on the grounds at Ebenezer.

During the Spring share-a-thon money was collected on the streets in Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro as well as on the phone as pledges came in from the listeners of 3WC Radio. Here are two of our faithful volunteers. Glen and Jerry.

We were blessed to break ground on the New Hope Home on April 17, 2004. The Lord really moved in a special way.
New Playground
We were blessed to be able to dedicate new playground equipment on March 6th thanks to the support of several local people and a large gift from The Mason Foundation. The kids LOVE it!
